Former Baltimore Ravens cheerleader Molly Shattuck was sentenced Friday to two years of probation after pleading guilty to raping a 15-year-old boy at a vacation rental home in Delaware.
Molly Shattuck met the 15-year-old boy on Instagram. She was accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting the boy. She must spend every other weekend in a Delaware work-release detention center for almost two years.
She pleaded guilty to one count of fourth-degree rape, an offense that has a maximum sentence of 15 years yet no mandatory minimum. Through heaving sobs Shattuck apologized before she was sentenced, "I was the adult, and I'm sorry."
Shattuck was arrested in November for third-degree rape, unlawful sexual contact and giving alcohol to minors. She accepted a plea deal that reduced the charge to a less serious rape offense. Officers report that she performed oral sex on the minor over Labor Day weekend at a Bethany Beach summer home.
Shattuck connected with the boy over social media. The boy was friends with her son. Shattuck and the boy exchanged texts and emails and often met in parked cars. The mother and father of the victim requested for Shattuck to be sentenced to more time.
Eugene Maurer, Shattuck's attorney, argued that his client's life had been upended during the time leading up to the crime by a close relative's drug addiction along with Shattuck's former husband, Mayo A. Shattuck III leaving her for a younger woman.
